The Farm

Cowdray Model Farm Celebrates a Great First Season

Since opening at Easter 2011, Cowdray Model Farm has attracted school children from all the local schools during weekdays and many hundreds of local people and visitors at weekends.

It has been a steep and very rewarding learning curve for farm staff, as we gained valuable feedback from children and other visitors. A key point for us was making sure that our demonstrations and tours engaged the younger generation and stimulated their interest and curiosity. On-farm manager Paul Crosdil, ably assisted by Charlotte, won plaudits from teachers, parents and grandparents, and many children have returned again and again to enjoy the farm experience.

The animals all settled well and enjoyed the attention. The atmosphere on the farm was calm and relaxing - exactly as it should be.

Our aim for next year is to have many more schools visit the farm for lambing and other events during term time. The educational mission of the farm is at the core of our existence and is something we must achieve.

Weekend visitors have shown their support through regularly visiting and by purchasing season tickets. See our main website for details. These make great Christmas presents! Next season begins 19th March 2012 and the first public day is Saturday 24th March 2012. We look forward to seeing you then.

The farm is just over an hour from London, Brighton and Southampton and there is plenty of parking for coaches.

Cowdray Home Farms
Most of the produce from the Cowdray Estate is available at Cowdray Farm Shop & Café. Our organically reared, award-winning beef and lamb are massively popular in the butchery; our grain is milled into the flour used for baking; Rebecca Laughton's organically grown vegetables are fresh in the veg section, we produce organic milk and cream from our dairy at Bepton Organics and finally Charlie's free-range eggs are as popular as ever.

In time more produce will come from Cowdray Model Farm and the opportunity for you to 'follow the food chain' will be complete.

Your support for local produce and the farming community of Midhurst and surrounding countryside is much appreciated.
